general info

Nestled between the iconic mountain and the wild west coast, Taranaki is renowned as New Zealand’s garden destination, home to some of the country’s most spectacular private and public gardens.

Established in 1987 as the Rhododendron Festival, the Centuria Taranaki Garden Festival is New Zealand’s longest-running garden festival. Over 10 days, visitors can explore more than 40 stunning gardens, from grand country estates and subtropical retreats to native sanctuaries, urban food forests, and sustainable lifestyle gardens.

Many of the festival gardens are recognised by the New Zealand Gardens Trust as International, National, or Regional Gardens of Significance.

Since 2017 and 2020 respectively, the festival has partnered with the Taranaki Sustainable Backyards Trail and the Taranaki Arts Trail, giving visitors the opportunity to explore artists' studios, community spaces, and innovative projects that celebrate creativity and inspire sustainable living.

Alongside beautiful gardens, the festival offers expert talks, creative experiences, regional hospitality, and the chance to discover the best of Taranaki.
