28 a Trafalgar Street, New Plymouth
Korito is a one-acre urban permaculture garden which has been developing since January 2016 from a conventional rose garden. It showcases the many ways to grow food and is used to teach people how to be sustainable and self-sufficient in their gardens. There are raised beds, mandala gardens, a herb spiral, food forest, sub-tropical area, espalier fruit trees, nursery, 350 year old bush block and bush walk. A range of mulches and groundcovers is used to keep the work of maintaining it to a minimum while providing a high output of food. There is a mix of annual, biennial and perennial productive crops that keep the gardens producing food for 12 months of the year.
